It was in this cave that Ignatius of Loyola wrote his Spiritual Exercises. After his canonisation, the cave was adorned with ornate sculptures by Joan and Francesc Grau, Josep Sunyer and the Aragonese Jesuit Miguel Sesé, author of highly original stucco work. Next-door a church was built in the 18C in a characteristic Jesuit style. A gallery, heavily decorated in a Renaissance inspired fashion between 1915-18, links both sites.
