In the royal city of Loches, the Collégiale Notre Dame, which became a parish church in 1802, is dedicated to St Ours, a 5C local evangelist. The Gothic Angevin-style porch has a richly decorated Romanesque doorway; over the nave are the famous "dubes" (12C), two octagonal pyramids that stand between the towers. But it is the recumbent effigy of Agnès Sorel, mistress of Charles VII, that people come to see. The alabaster sculpture exudes a sense of serenity.
