Lisbon's green lung, this 900ha park, which is very wooded (pines and oaks) and rugged, has long been the favourite Sunday picnic spot for the people of Lisbon. It is possible to walk there or take the roads that run through the park offering panoramic views of Lisbon, especially from the Monsanto Lookout. Several "parks in the park", such as the Parque Alvito and the Parque dos Índios, have children's playgrounds and swimming pools.
