Linderhof Park blends perfectly with the palace built by Ludwig II of Bavaria. The natural slopes of the valley were used to lay out pools, cascades and terraced gardens in the style of an Italian villa, while the side borders are typical of French formal gardens. A number of monuments in the park, such as the Moorish Pavilion, bought at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867, the Grotto of Venus and the Hundinghütte, inspired by Wagner's operas, complete the somewhat extravagant picture.
