The Church of St Francis Xavier testifies to the power of the Jesuit College founded in Leoben in 1613. This early-Baroque building from the 1660s is attributed to architect Pietro Francesco Carlone. A statue of Francis Xavier adorns the façade, above the main door. Inside, the simple pilasters enhance the black and gold colour scheme of the period interior (1670) and there is no lack of grotesques, which are characteristic of Austrian Jesuit Baroque churches.
