This château, on which building started in 1527, was designed by Florentines and brought from Italy by Jacques II de Chabannes, Lord of La Palice. The upper terrace of the château commands fine views of the Besbre and the surrounding valley. Inside, a magnificent gilded coffered ceiling and two tapestries depicting valiant knights adorn the Salon Doré. The Salon des Médailles houses numerous decorations including Nelson's golden anchor. The Chabannes family is buried in the chapel (rebuilt in the mid-15C).
