The Kukkola rapids, lined by dilapidated wooden jetties, watermills and the inevitable fishermen's huts, combine to create an idyllic Scandinavian scene. Since the Middle Ages, people have traditionally fished from the jetties here, catching different species of freshwater whitefish, closely related to the salmonidae family, and all of which are referred to in Sweden by the term sik.
