Although Kota is better known for its chemical factories than its monuments, Garh Palace, a palace-fort dating from the late 17C overlooking the River Chamdal near the dam, is well worth a visit for its fine views of the old town. Also of interest is the Rao Madho Singh museum in the palace, which houses a collection of beautiful 19C wall paintings and miniatures from the Kota School.
