Slovenia's largest cathedral stands out with its lofty, unadorned bell tower and marble façade. In a mixed Gothic-Renaissance style, the cathedral can be dated back to two periods of construction: the late 14C for the lower part and 100 years later for the upper part. In the 18C, the nave was rebuilt in the Baroque style and a dome added above the transept crossing. In the austere side aisles some interesting paintings remain, including those from Carpaccio's atelier.
