Here you will find a giant statue of Kannon, the 11-headed Goddess of Mercy. According to legend, this 9m-tall camphor wood sculpture, one of two, was made in the village of Hase and thrown into the sea, before later washing up on a Kamakura beach. Hase-dera Temple was built to house and honour the statue. The Kannon you see here now is represented with a stick in one hand and a lotus flower in the other.
