This park on the edge of Jimena de la Frontera is made up of one of the largest cork oak forests in Europe. The cork is harvested according to a process that has remained unchanged since the forest was first worked commercially in the 1830s. Each tree has its bark removed every ten years and the strips of bark are cut up between June and September, when the tree is left to regenerate. The park is crossed by numerous hiking trails, many of which follow old transhumance routes.
