This museum charts the history of the shrine whose origins are buried in local myth. Founded in the 7C, it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times over the centuries. The buildings that now stand in its place date back to the 18 and 19C. The museum displays items found during digs (pottery, bronze swords and bells). A 1:10 scale model depicts the shrine as it was 1,000 years ago, when it was suspended on stilts 48m/187ft high and reached by a 109m/357ft long-staircase.
