The imposing Galata Tower is 68m tall. Built in 1348, it was the main bastion of the Genoese surrounding wall. Modified by the Ottomans, it served as a prison then a watchtower. It was even the starting point of the first man to fly, Hezarfen Ahmet Çelebi, who hurled himself from its summit in the 17C and made it to Üsküdar on wings of his own making. Without going as far as imitating him, climb up to the top floor (panoramic restaurant and balcony) to enjoy 360° views of the city.
