Peace Memorial Park
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
Designed in the 1960s by the architect Tange Kenzo, this park planted with camphor trees and oleander stretches over 12ha in the centre of the city. It is at the northern tip of an island between the Ota and Motoyatsu rivers, on the site of a district that was totally devastated by the bomb. The Memorial Park for Peace is home to numerous monuments (fountains, towers and steles) that commemorate the 140 000 victims of the atomic explosion, including the Peace Memorial Museum and the Cenotaph. On 6 August, an annual commemorative ceremony is held in the park.
