The modern glass and concrete design of this museum dating from 2007 is the work of Japanese architect Tange Kenzo. It is located on the exact spot of the ruins of the former castle of Himeji. The history of Japan's castles is related through large scale models, replicas of the 12 Japanese castles to have retained their original structure. It also showcases a few antiques, ancient Buddhas and old toys and games from the Hyogo region.
