Attracting believers from all over East Asia, Lingyin Temple - Temple of the Soul's Retreat - is the most important temple in the south of the country. In its main hall with a triple-eaved roof, it houses the largest seated Buddha in China (almost 25m high). Also of interest are the 300 statues of Buddha that stand on the mountainside, and the Hall of 500 Arhats, the tallest copper structure in the world, with its rows of sages, whose faces wear a variety of expressions.
