This fabulous temple was started under the reign of Seti I and completed by his son Rameses II. It is built out of fine limestone, and has a rare L-shaped layout. Visitors can take in a series of hypostyle halls and doorways on the way to the chapels devoted to the Pharaoh and the deities. Note in particular the paintings in the Chapel of Osiris, as well as the corridor displaying the King List, Seti I's tribute to his 76 predecessors. The reliefs in this temple, which show remarkable finesse and attention to detail, mark the revival of Egyptian art at the time of Rameses (New Kingdom).
