Beyond Évaux-les-Bains, the corniche road dominates the river, winding among rocky outcrops covered in trees, heather and ferns. A path (accessed just outside Chambon at the Girardy mill) runs along the left bank of the River Voueize. It is strange to find oneself deep in the gorge; once acclimatised, visitors can see the gour de Leyrat pool and the ruins of a castle known locally as "Barbe-Blueu".
