The silhouette of this immense basilica, completed in 1869, is emblematic of the skyline of Esztergom. Its vast proportions (117m long, 47m wide and a façade 100m high) together with its dominant position over the Danube make it impossible to miss. However the most intriguing part of the edifice is Bakócz chapel, one of the oldest Renaissance buildings still standing outside of Italy. Also worth visiting are the Treasury, home to over 350 sacred artefacts and the crypt where many Hungarian cardinals are buried.
