Going up the Zugspitze, the highest peak in Germany (2 964m), with the Tyrolean Zugspitze Cable Car, is without a doubt a unique experience. From the top cable car station, the view southwards takes in the peaks of the Hohe Tauern, which are covered with snow year round, the Tyrolese Alps and the Ortler and Bernina massifs. To the east, beyond the Arlberg mountains, the Säntis in the Appenzell Alps can be made out beyond. In the foreground are the Allgäu and Ammergau mountains.
