Situated on the banks of the Rhine, Düsseldorf's old town is known as "the longest bar in Europe", thanks to its many bars and taverns. In the pedestrianised Bolkerstrasse, the liveliest street in the district, note the house where Heinrich Heine was born; in Scheider-Wibbel-Gasse you can hear the chimes strike several times a day. Head back to Bolkerstrasse, where you can admire the statue of the "Radschläger" (waiters who cartwheel for money) under the plane trees.
