This typical picture-postcard image of rural India is in sharp contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city centre. Goats, cows and buffalos graze calmly in the alleyways of this district, which is dominated by the ruins of Begumpur mosque, the last monument to survive from ancient Jahanpanah (a city founded by the Tughluq dynasty in the 14C). This district is best explored on a Sunday, when local men relax on rope beds (charpoy) to smoke and play cards.
