Built in 1888 in the south of Coronado Island and restored in 1998, this extravagant white wooden landmark is depicted by red shingle roofs and turrets. Hotel del Coronado, commonly referred to as the Del, has had its fair share of royalty, presidential and movie star guests, among whom Tony Curtis and Marilyn Monroe during the shooting of Some like it hot (1959), showcased in the hotel's small museum. The opulent, two-story lobby is lined in dark Illinois wood.
