From the town of Concepción (20km after Jauja), a 5km-road leads to the convent of Santa Rosa de Ocopa, one of the most beautiful convents of central Peru. This Franciscan monastery was founded in 1725 to house the brothers who were getting ready to evangelise the Amazon Indians. In addition to four cloisters, it is above all renowned for its superb library of 25,000 books and its Natural History Museum, home to a major collection of Amazonian animals and insects.
