The coming and going of cartloads of oysters, merchants and the return of fishing boats at high tide add to the special atmosphere of this very busy port. The harbour is bordered by a picturesque quarter built against the cliff, with narrow streets where deep-sea fishermen used to live. A road, the Vau-baudet (now the rue du Port), once connected the port to the village of Cancale, the upper quarter where the "landowners" and shopkeepers used to live.
