Mausoleum of Queen Louise
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
On the death of his wife Queen Louise, the inconsolable Frederick William III decided to build a mausoleum in the grounds of Charlottenburg Palace, which was subsequently enlarged for other members of the Hohenzollern family. The work of Christian Daniel Rauch, the tomb of Queen Louise (19C) is carved in Carrara marble: the natural, unconventional pose of the queen and the beauty of her hands, face and drapes contrasts sharply with the more rigid figures of William I and his wife Augusta.
