Water lilies of Kagurame Lake
De Groene Gids
De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
Every year, at the foot of Mounts Yufu (1,584m/5,196ft) and Tsurumi (1,375m/4,511ft), the scenery on the banks of Kagurame Lake is transformed. From the start of June to mid-July, over 15,000 irises paint the banks in soft whites and violets. A stroll down the path built on stilts that leads to the next-door lake is the best way to enjoy this magnificent sight. The lake is said to be named after a young singer from the Heian period (794-1185) who lived nearby.
