Walk through the centre of Bandung and you will discover a cluster of wonderful Art Deco buildings. On Jalan Braga, the former colonial district and now the scene of much of Bandung's nightlife, you will find the Bank Pembangunan Daerah and the Bank of Indonesia, both with elegant minimalist façades and geometrical lines. On nearby Jalan Asia Afrika, the city's main thoroughfare, be sure to take in the superb façades of the Savoy Homann Hotel and the Grand Preanger. But the best known building in the city remains the Gedung Merdeka, where the famous Bandung conference was held in 1955.
