De beoordeling van de Michelin Gids
Built in 1798 at the southern entrance to the harbour, Fort McHenry, designed by French architect Jean Foncin, was clearly inspired by Vauban's technique. The fort's most notably distinguished itself during the battle of 13 September 1814 against the British Army. Francis Scott Key (1779-1843) immortalised the battle with a poem that became the American national anthem in 1931. Exhibitions cover the site and military life in the 19C, while the Rangers provide guided tours and activities.
