To the south of the Columbia River Maritime Museum, the Astoria Column, erected in 1926, stands on top of a 597ft hill. Similar to Trajan's column in Rome, it is open to the public. You can climb the 164 steps to the top to enjoy the view of the ocean and, to the west, the Astoria-Megler Bridge, the world's largest lattice truss bridge.
