In the former high street of Arita, a few traditional galleries and historic shops are still in business. Among the latter, two of the most famous are Iro Nabeshima, which showcases rare coloured porcelain whose manufacturing secret has been jealously guarded by the Imaemon family for three centuries and Koransha, established during the Meiji Period, and also famous for the manufacture of ceramic insulators for telephone and electric cables, which sells fine contemporary ceramics.
