This mosque built between 1869 and 1912 is a pastiche of the Mameluke style. It houses the tombs of Kings Fwad and Faruk, as well as the cenotaphs of Princess Taoufida Hanim (the daughter of Ismail Pasha) and the last Shah of Iran. To the left of the minbar, the mihrab of the Syrian-inspired iwan boasts a rich marble and gilded decor. In an adjacent chapel with unusual acoustics and several tombs, admire that of Ferdinand de Lesseps' sister, with its combination of Christian and Muslim motifs.
