The emblem of the city, Akureyri Cathedral (1940) with its pair of lofty concrete spires stands on the little hill overlooking the town centre. The image of Lutherian austerity, its lines are a perfect match to its pared-down, light-filled interior. In the chancel, you catch sight of its superb 15C stained-glass window. Note also the model boat hanging in the nave, an offering from the local sailors, and the modern bas-relief that decorates the mezzanine housing a giant organ.
