In this monastery perched at the top of a rocky spur, the rules of Mt Athos apply: women are not allowed inside. According to legend, the community was founded by St Helena in the 4C. The mother of Emperor Constantine is said to have deposited a fragment of the Holy Cross here, which is still preserved by the monks. The current buildings date from the 19C. From the terrace in front of the entrance you will be treated to a splendid panoramic view, from the south coast of the island to the Troodos Mountains.
