Perched on top of the highest point of the Taunus mountains, Großer Feldberg is home to the viewing tower (Aussichtsturm) of a major telecommunications centre. It commands an extensive panorama of the Westerwald plateaux to the northwest, the Wetterau depression to the northeast and the Lower Main valley and Frankfurt to the southeast. On clear days, you can see the spires of the cathedrals of Cologne and Strasbourg.
