Andrew Molera State Park, in the Big Sur region, occupies part of the ranch bought in 1840 by Captain Cooper, a settler of Monterey. The pretty Headlands Trail (4.5km there and back) takes you past Cooper's hut and leads to Point Molera, which looks out over a lovely beach. Other walks on the cliffs are also possible. To the south of the park, the road heads inland, into a wooded and mountainous landscape.
