Large banquet halls are a rare breed these days, but this Flushing mainstay has endured the test of time. This veteran resident of 39th Avenue is outfitted with oversized round tables, bamboo plants and ornate chandeliers. Before you’ve even had a chance to sit down, a host of carts approach. Questions fly and lids are removed. In a blur, the likes of steamed shumai packed with pork and shrimp, spareribs with rice starch and black beans, chicken and ham wrapped in yuba, and poached jellyfish with scallions and sesame crowd your table. You may or may not see a menu – and you may not even need one. Most don’t. Servers crisscross the room, and everyone tends to everything all at once. Weekends are especially frenetic, so arrive early to score a seat.
