Here, at the Lagarde winery in Luján de Cuyo, half an hour from Mendoza, there’s a total commitment on local cuisine to complement the wine experience. Between this restaurant and Zonda, which could be described as its elder sibling, there is a strong emphasis on history, the connection with the local area, and the setting in this stunning natural paradise. Access to Fogón is via the winery’s boutique, where guests can also enjoy a tasting of food as well as wine. In the dining room, with its high ceilings and a kitchen visible at one end, you can choose between two tasting menus, both with wine pairings from the estate, plus an à la carte with a clear penchant for superb grilled Argentinian meats (ribeye, tri-tip, T-bone etc), Italian recipes (we particularly enjoyed the al dente Cavatelli pasta with lamb) and creative cuisine. It’s also possible to arrange a scenic open-air lunch here with views of the vineyards.
