Hyangiram was built in 659 to honour Gwaneum, one of the most important divinities of Mahayana Buddhism. Built on a rock in the 7C, the temple is devoted to scripture and in particular to the divinatory art that consisted in sacrificing a tortoise before burning its shell to interpret the cracks. Access to the sanctuary provides the opportunity for a lovely walk, between a narrow pass in the midst of a chaos of strewn rocks. Don't miss the breath-taking sunrise!
