At Profitis Ilias Monastery, tucked away in a pinewood (altitude 500m), is the cell where Kolokotronis, hero of the War of Greek Independence, was imprisoned in 1825. Next stop, Agia Evpraxia Monastery, where the nuns work with silk, or the top of Mt Eros to feast your eyes on the wonderful panoramic view: the Gulf of Saronica on one side, the Myrtoan Sea on the other, and, at your feet, the rugged landscape of Hydra, dotted with abandoned hamlets.
