Built on delta materials deposited by Cameron Creek, the town has a lovely site near the point where Upper Lake narrows into the Bosporus Strait, which separates it from Middle Lake. Just south behind the townsite, the flat face of Mount Richards can be distinguished. Beside it stands Mount Bertha, marked by pale green streaks down the otherwise dark green surface. The streaks were caused by snowslides that swept trees down the mountainside. Across the lake rise Vimy Peak and Vimy Ridge. Upper Lake stretches south into Montana, separating the mountains of the Lewis and Clark Range, which tower steeply above it.
