The road leading up to the caldera passes through beautiful rural landscapes brightened by hydrangea hedges. It leads to the Caldeirão miradouro, which offers a view of the central crater, whose perimeter measures 3.4 km. Here, at a depth of 300 m, two lakes of blue water glisten in the sunlight (or not...) and you can see small islets which, according to tradition, represent the layout of the islands of the Azores (with the exception of Flores and Corvo). The clouds and setting sun are reflected in the water. Superb!
