This 22,500ha park stretches either side of the A317 road connecting Vélez Rubio to the south-east and María to the north-west. Its impressive landscapes, some at an altitude in excess of 2 000m, are covered with thyme, holm oak, pine trees and broom. Several refuges and dedicated leisure areas are dotted around the park.
