A staircase leads to the entrance to Tham Jang, a cave that is very popular with Vang Vieng's inhabitants. Its huge rooms are connected with each other via paths with protective balustrades and with viewing platforms along their route. With its easy access and bucolic setting, Tham Jang provides a good overview of the geological formations present in the region. The maze of rooms within the mountain provided a refuge for the local population during the civil war and incursions by the Chinese.
