An excellent (if demanding) mountain hike will take you first to the Fonds des Fours refuge to admire the Grande Sassière, Mont-Blanc range, Sache dome and Bellevarde. The path winds steeply to the 3,000m/9,842ft-high pass, commanding a magnificent view over a lake framed by the Jave glacier and the Maurienne and Tarentaise.
