Gamla Uppsala is the site of the original Uppsala. Visitors can freely explore this major archaeological site comprising three hills, which are in fact three royal burial mounds: those of the princes of the Ynglinga dynasty, descending all the way back to Odin. A fourth, albeit highly eroded, is located to the east of the site. Archaeologists have also discovered 250 to 300 tombs. Objects and jewellery unearthed here are displayed in the museum.
