Probably inhabited from the 9C until 1920, the extraordinary troglodyte village of La Madeleine was built halfway up a cliff in the heart of the Vézère Valley. The remains of the medieval village (houses, chapel) in this rock shelter allow visitors to better understand the life of peasants in this region. The Palaeolithic layer discovered at the base of the cliff in 1863 gave its name to a prehistoric period: the Magdalenian.
