LBJ's "Texas White House"-the president's sprawling ranch beside the Pedernales River-is the featured attraction at these combined parks, which span 1,200 acres. Buses depart from the State Park Visitor Center; those awaiting a tour can view a film and displays on Johnson's life. The 90min National Park Service tour travels to the LBJ Ranch, stopping at the one-room Junction School where Johnson began his education. The bus slows for photos of the Texas White House, then continues past an airstrip and cattle barns to LBJ's reconstructed birthplace home and the family cemetery where he is buried. Private vehicles are permitted on the ranch only between 5pm and sunset. Within the state-park boundary is the 1918 Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm, furnished in period style and manned by costumed interpreters who perform the daily chores of a c.1900 Texas-German farm family.
