Ľubovňa Castle, whose majestic silhouette stands proudly over the Spiš region, is the symbol of the city. It was built in the second half of the 13C by a Hungarian king. In 1412, following a peace treaty, it became Polish until 1772. Belonging to large Polish families, it was the place where the royal insignia of Poland was protected during invasion by Sweden between 1655 and 1661. In 1966, the castle was turned into a museum.
