Sbeïtla is home to the ruins of the ancient city of Sufetula. Founded in the 1C AD, the city was laid out according to the typical grid plan of Roman cities. Don't miss the three temples of the Capitol dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva, honoured here in three separate buildings which form the religious centre of the city. Also worthy of note are the Vitalis church and baptistery, superb examples of the development of Christianity, and the huge Arch of Antonius Pius, which is a vestige of the Byzantine fortifications.
